5 Tips for Small Home Living

Small home living, like it or love it, is something that many of us have to adjust to. The great news is that living in a smaller space doesn’t have to mean compromising on style, or even comfort! As a matter of fact, it’s a great opportunity to embrace minimalism and get creative with your interior design style.

Here are some of the best tips for making the most out of every square foot in your small living space.

Embrace Mirrors

Mirrors can be your best friend when it comes to making a space look much larger than it is. Mirrors will reflect light and also create the illusion that our room is much larger. Place mirrors throughout your home, and you’ll find that it instantly makes your space feel double its size.

Let the Light In

Lighting is essential for making a space seem larger. Embrace natural light as much as you can, since this is the ideal kind. Open your blinds, use your curtains, and let sunlight in. You may want to strategically place your mirrors around your windows so that you can reflect even more light throughout your home.

Ditch The Clutter

Clutter is your worst enemy when you’re trying to design a small space. The more items you have laying around, the more cramped in your space will seem. So, make sure you keep things in drawers or closets, or even in baskets. The less things are in view and piled on top of each other, the more spacious your home will appear.

Move Things Up

When you only have so much square footage to work with, sometimes you have to lift things off the ground. For example, instead of floor lamps consider table lamps or even wall lamps. Add shelves, and get as many things off the ground as you can. Optimizing your vertical space will clear up your floor space and not just make things look more spacious, but you’ll actually have more room to move around in.

Consider Multi-Functional Furniture

The Japanese are masters of small space living. And one thing they are known for is multifunctional furniture. In other words, an ottoman that doubles as a coffee table is practical, or a couch with built in storage. The more you can give each piece of furniture multiple purposes the less space you’ll take up with numerous objects, and the less you’ll bump into your furniture trying to get around.

Remember, small home living doesn’t have to restrain you from expressing yourself stylistically. In fact, it can be a full-fledged opportunity to let your creativity shine. Coming up with ways to make the most out of the space you’ve got can be a fun project!
