The advantages of the smartphone ways

Smartphones: the mini computers of the future that we carry around in our pockets. Powerful enough to not only keep us connected at all times but also play some pretty respectable games. That’s not to say there aren’t any modern titles out there. Developers have acknowledged and embraced the power of the mini chips in these devices and we have 3D shooters, cards based, RPGs, and indie platformers coming out every month. Gaming on a smartphone seemed like a laughable offense just a few years ago, but technology does what technology does and it’s pretty common nowadays.

Conventional wisdom suggests that time spent playing smartphone games is time wasted. The common perception is that few casual games exercise the brain and, if there is any physical activity involved, it’s usually a workout for your thumbs and not much else.

The truth is, there are some very good reasons why it’s perfectly OK to pick up your smartphone and spend a few minutes knocking down pigs or playing a game of poker with some online friends. Here are just a few examples:

Smartphone games are social

The stereotype of the smartphone gamer as a socially awkward adolescent is as outdated as Space Invaders. Many smartphone games have thriving online and offline fan bases and a community component that strongly encourages social interaction.

Smartphone games teach strategic thinking

Smartphone games teach us to think objectively about both the games themselves and our own performance. We get instant feedback on our decisions and quickly learn our strengths and weaknesses. That you lose a ranked game and fall in ranking or you win that poker hand and touch jackpot, it’s all you.

Games are freely available

This is one of the best reasons to embrace mobile gaming. Most Android and iOS games are freely available at Google Play and Apple’s App Store. Most online casino Canada and other Canada based games offer free portals, not a penny to spend to access most features. A lot of them also include a few ads, but that’s not too big a deal. Games such as DomiNations and Hearthstone include in-app purchases as an alternative to ads. In comparison, new Xbox One games are retailing at $50-$60 on Amazon. Thus, mobile games are generally of much better value than console alternatives.

Smartphone games help you relax

Having a tough day at work or just need a few minutes to recharge? A quick 15 minutes playing Temple Run or a couple of hands of blackjack can be just what the doctor ordered. Relax, put your feet up, beat your top score, and return to work happy and refreshed!

So, there has never been a better time to pick up a mobile device for gaming frolics. The mobile gaming industry is already very big, and it’s going to get even bigger in the next few years with new cloud-gaming services, 5G networking, and higher spec phones and tablets. One would say that it is a shame to miss out on something that has come this far.
