8 Tips on Choosing Solar Panel Installers for Homeowners

Do you want to put an end to your soaring electrical bills? Are you searching for ways to make your home more energy-efficient?

Then perhaps it’s time to consider installing solar panels. These panels convert light into electricity. As their name implies, the light they convert comes from the sun.

The panels feature a collection of solar cells. These cells are the ones that absorb the light. In turn, they turn the light into energy that you can use at home.

But before you think of the savings you can enjoy, you must first find the right solar panel installers. But how do you pick a good installer? What are the key factors to consider?

Continue reading below as we discuss eight important tips that will help you find the right solar panel installers.

1. Reputation Matters

The industry reputation of solar panel installers plays a big role in your choice. Hence, get a feel of what the community is saying about the solar panel companies.

The first place to start is in the customer reviews. Visit the websites of different installers and check the feedback section. What are their customers saying about their products and services?

Are they generally happy? Or did they leave some negative comments? Take note of the red flags that you read.

Also, talk to your friends, relatives, and colleagues who have solar panels at home. Inquire about their respective solar panel providers. Ask about their experience with the panels and the installers.

2. Certification Counts

Aside from a solid industry reputation, certification is also a must. You want to hire a company with a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) certification.

The NABCEP certification is the gold standard when it comes to certifications for professional installers in the United States. Before an installer earns this certification, he must first go through a stringent process.

He needs to pass a written test. He also needs to have a certain amount of industry experience.

Keep in mind that a NABCEP certification doesn’t guarantee top-notch workmanship. However, it assures you that the installer comes with much experience and skills for the job.

3. Compare the Prices

Another important tip to follow is the habit of comparing the cost of installation. The key is to get more than one quote. Thus, talk to at least three local installers and request for quotes from each one of them.

When deciding on the price, don’t go automatically for the cheapest. Sometimes, the cheapest equates to more problems down the line.

In the same manner, the most expensive doesn’t always result in the best installation. Pick a solar energy company that matches your budget. From there, consider all the other factors to determine which one offers the best value.

4. Check the Licenses

Never spend your money on a company that does not have any license to install solar panels. However, requirements for solar panel licenses differ per state. Some areas require specialized licenses.

Some are more lenient where an electrician’s license will already suffice.

Meanwhile, some states require a general contractor’s license. Interestingly, some places do not require any license at all. Hence, check your area if it requires a license.

If so, look for a company that has one.

5. The Experience of the Solar Panel Installers

The experience of the installer is also paramount in your search. Thus, it is wise to choose a local company that is already in the business for quite some time.

A company with an ample amount of experience knows the ins and outs of installing solar panels. They use effective installation processes and follow strict safety standards.

Also, you can expect them to be technically competent. And if you have any questions about the installation, they should be able to answer you clearly.

However, you may live in a state where solar panels are relatively new. In this case, you may find it hard to find a company with a strong track record and experience. In such instances, make sure the company you pick comes with all the necessary licenses and certifications.

6. Consider Flexibility

Though solar panel installation seems straightforward, some companies offer flexibility in their installations. If you have specific requirements concerning your house, you need to find an installer that can customize the installation according to your specifications.

Hire a company that can create a custom design. This will ensure the installation of the right equipment and appropriate approach that match your home’s requirements.

7. Look for Warranties and Insurances

How long do solar panels last? On average, it should serve you for around 25 to 30 years.

And to ensure that you’re getting the most out of your investment, you need to ask about the warranties. Go for a company that offers a comprehensive installation warranty.

Warranties differ per company. However, a decent warranty should cover anywhere between one and 10 years. It should come with an equipment guarantee, as well as a power performance guarantee.

Interestingly, the inverter system comes with a separate warranty. Make sure the inverter system warranty period covers anywhere between 10 and 25 years.

8. Mind the Turnaround Time

Last but not least, go for a company that can accommodate your installation request fast. In larger cities, most of the reputable solar energy companies have busy schedules. Hence, you want to inquire about their availability.

Take note that timing is essential if you wish to enjoy the 30% federal tax credit. Installing your solar panels in February may not be a wise move. It means you will have to wait much longer before you can enjoy the tax credit.

Hence, it is best to install your panels toward the end of the year, preferably in November.

6 Major Reasons to Use Self Storage

Are you planning on moving soon or are you running out of space in your home? It might be time to consider using a storage unit to help you store some of your valuables. This could be useful for either short or long periods of time.

Keep reading to learn some of the biggest reasons why people use self-storage units.

1. Moving

Moving from one place to another, whether in the same town or another state, can be a stressful process. You might be moving from a smaller apartment into a larger home, or vice versa, but one problem always seems to pop up. What are you supposed to do with all of your stuff while you’re packing?

As you begin to pack your things, you should start with the items that you don’t need or use on a daily basis. Now, these items are in a box and have been stacked in the corner of a room or your garage. This can be an issue when you are staging your home for sale.

Renting a small storage unit can help you store these items off-site so your home stays decluttered while you are trying to show it to potential buyers.

Another great reason to use self-storage units when moving is it will help you if you need to downsize into a smaller home or consolidate if you are moving in with someone else. Rather than having to sort through all your things and make the decision to toss, keep, or sell, you can store them until you are ready to make use of them or if you finally decide to get rid of it.

2. Declutter

If you’ve lived in one place long enough, you will notice that your home will start to collect items that you’ve picked up here and there or perhaps received from other people. Eventually, you realize that your home is starting to look cluttered and it might become overwhelming.

If you are ready to declutter your home, but not ready to part with everything, a storage unit is a great opportunity for you to free up some space without getting rid of everything.

You can also temporarily rent a unit so that you have a place to put your things while you are going through the decluttering process.

If you like to decorate often, you can also store things so you can switch them out in your home from time to time and keep things fresh. Southern Self Storage is a great place for you to store your seasonal decorations, which you only need access to once a year.

3. Storing Vehicles

If you own a boat, RV, motorcycle, or car, you might need somewhere to store it during the offseason. If you live in a northern state, you should store these vehicles inside so that the inclement weather and snow won’t ruin the paint, tires, or upholstery.

Most people don’t own a garage that is large enough for their bigger vehicles and need an option for where to place them which is when a storage unit comes in handy.

If you just need somewhere safe to store your vehicles during the offseason because you don’t have a driveway or garage big enough, or perhaps you will be out of town, a storage facility can still be useful. Many of these facilities have a secure, fenced-in, parking area with outdoor, covered parking spaces.

4. Store Your Dorm Room

If you are attending college and living on campus, or are the parent of a student, then you are often faced with a dilemma during the summer months. Where are you going to store all their dorm room belongings?

If you or your student attend a college that is out of state, it doesn’t make sense to move all of these belongings back and forth each summer. It is better to rent a storage unit located near the campus where you can easily store and retrieve your things when the time comes.

These storage units located near college campuses can get reserved quickly, so you should consider renting a unit at least a month in advance. This way, you will be sure to get one and in the size you need.

5. Storage for Your Business

If you’re a small business owner, you might begin your business from your own home. Soon, your inventory might begin to take over your entire house with no clear line between where your home ends and your business begins. If this sounds familiar to you, then it might be time to rent a storage unit where you can organize your things.

There are many types of small businesses that use storage units for their inventory. Some of these types are small contractors or carpenters, boutiques and retail shops, books and antique dealers, or sales and service professionals.

6. Storing a Loved One’s Belongings

If you’ve had a loved one pass away recently, then you will likely not be in a mental state to start going through their things. Unfortunately, you might have to pack up their things sooner than you are ready for if the house has to be rented or sold.

If your loved one had many things and didn’t downsize before their passing, then it might be overwhelming to deal with the sheer volume of their things.

It might be easier for you to pack their items and put them in storage until you are ready to go through and sort through their belongings. This might also be a better option when the family is involved and you might need to settle who gets what and not feel pressed for time.

Reap the Benefits of Self-Storage Today

These are some of the many reasons why you should consider renting a self-storage unit. Many people find it easier to help them declutter or downsize their things when prepping for a move by storing items in a storage unit. You can also use a storage unit to store your vehicles or dorm room during the offseason.

Many small business owners find it easier to store their inventory in a storage unit or it can be helpful after a loved one has passed away.

Beer Talk: What Are Hops and Why Is It Needed for Beer?

Are you ready to drink like an Egyptian?

You’ve probably heard of Egyptian tombs, where the deceased is buried with things they might need in the afterlife. What you’re probably not aware of however is that sometimes, beer made the list of afterlife necessities.

Deep in the tomb of the Pharoh Scorpion I, buried close to 3150 BCE, you’ll find jugs of sorghum beer. The tomb walls have an etching on them that translated into English reads, “Beer that doesn’t turn sour”.

Unfortunately for the Pharoh however, his beers likely turned sour by now. Without the addition of hops, beer has a very short shelf life.

What are hops, and how do they make beer better?

Read on to find out!

What Are Hops?

For starters, let’s look at what the 4 main ingredients of beer are. There’s water, malt, yeast, and of course hops.

When you’re drinking a beer, the flavor will change dramatically depending on how much of each ingredient the beer contains. For instance, to enjoy a drink with a strong aroma and robust flavor, you’d need a beer that contains a lot of malt in the recipe. However, if you’re looking for a beer that has flavor, aroma, and bitterness, you’ll need a “hoppy” beverage.

What are hops exactly? Hops are cones or flowers that come from the Humulus lupulus plant. The Humulus lupulus plant belongs to the cannabaceae family, the same plant family as marijuana and hemp. As a result, hop plants are some of the hardiest plants worldwide.

Flavor and Aroma Profiles

On top of giving beer it’s a famous bitter taste, what else can hops do? Working as a preservative, beers that contain hops have longer shelf lives than those that don’t.

Next, hops are also responsible for helping beer maintain a healthy head of foam. How do hops assist with foam stability? It all has to do with the bitter flavor hops provide.

Creating Beer Foam

One of the bitter substances in hops is isohumulones, and it’s a form of alpha acid. Alpha acids are hydrophobic, which means they’re great at repelling water. As a result, the hops can tightly hold the bubbles together, creating a great framework for the beer’s head formation.

Different Types of Beer Hops

Now that you know a little bit more about what hops are, let’s look at all of the different types!

Here’s a shortlist of brewing hops used especially for beer:

  • Agnus hops
  • Beata hops
  • Galaxy
  • Apollo hops
  • California cluster hops
  • Bramling cross hops
  • Cascade
  • Centennial

Each hops provides it’s own unique aroma and flavor, creating a truly unique drinking experience.

Cascade and Centennial Hops

Cascade hops come from a mountain range in Oregon, and it’s a popular choice for Americans. Beers brewed with Cascade tend to have an intensely hoppy taste.

Another benefit of Cascade hops is the aroma experience they deliver. A beer made with Cascade hops will have a citrusy aroma, mixed with hints of floral and pine.

Next, Centennial hops are the big sister of Cascade hops. The alpha acid content in Centennial hops is almost double than of the alpha acid content found in the Cascades.

As a result, beers made with Centennial hops tend to be more bitter. The aroma will also be more intense, with strong scents of floral and lemon.

What Does Galaxy Hops Taste Like?

Finally, are you looking to try an exotic flavor? If yes, then try drinking a beer brewed with Galaxy hops.

Originating from Australia, Galaxy is usually added at the end of the brewing process to give the beer a boost in both aroma and flavor. Your tastebuds will get to enjoy light fruity flavors, like passion fruit, and tangerine.

Be Brave and Try New Flavors

If you have 1 type of beer as you go to the beverage, consider branching out. The wide variety of beer hops makes it possible to enjoy all sorts of aromas, flavors, and bitterness levels.

You can also help your friends and coworkers branch out to try new beer flavors. The next time you buy corporate gift baskets include beers made from less common hops. This way, you’ll be able to introduce your co-workers and supervisors to new beers they otherwise might not have tried!

Finding the Best IPA

Are you thinking about giving an IPA a try? IPAs are especially hoppy beers and they fall under the pale ale category.

Depending on the IPAs brewer, the beverage will have different amounts of malt, hops, and of course alcohol. Typically, IPAs also have higher alcohol content than other beers.

The best IPAs know how to maintain a perfect balance between the hops aroma and flavors. For instance, the hop to malt ratio has to be spot on for the beer to be enjoyable. Finally, the ingredients have to be fresh for an IPA to shine.

Can You Have Beer Without Hops?

After trying a few different beers with hops, you might be wondering, can you have beer without hops? The easy answer is yes!

While you should give hops a fair chance, we understand that hoppy beers aren’t for everyone. For instance, some people can’t drink hops because they’re allergic. Luckily, there are hops free beers out there, such as gruit.

What Is Gruit?

Gruit is a drink that dates back to Medieval times. Instead of using hops, brewers use a variety of bitter herbs to give the beer it’s aroma and flavor.

For instance, brewers would use bitter herbs like Marsh Rosemary, Bog Myrtle, and Yarrow. Since gruit doesn’t have any hops, it’ll have a shorter shelf life, so once you buy it, drink up!

Raise Your Glass

Now, the next time someone asks, “What are hops?”, you’ll already know the answer.

Which type of beer are you going to try first? Perhaps you’ll indulge in an exotic beer made with Galaxy hops? Or maybe you’ll turn to brewers who are using Centennial hops for an intense flavor experience?

We hope our article will inspire you to be brave, and try new beers! For more fun articles like this one, check out the rest of this site.

Why Is My Furnace Making Noises?: 4 Common Noises and How to Get It Fixed

Did you know that you should service your furnace and have it inspected once per year? In fact, 75% of the calls made during the winter due to no heat coming out are caused by a lack of maintenance. If you are dealing with your furnace making noises, and are not sure what it means, we are here to help you.

Keep reading to learn some of the top noises that you never want to ignore.

1. Whining Noise

A high pitched noise when you turn your furnace on can mean that the shaft bearings need some TLC. The first thing you will want to do is check if they need oil. You will also want to check if the blower belt or the blower motor are worn or broken.

If you do not feel comfortable checking any of these you can contact a reputable professional like https://www.schneidermechanical.com/ to have them diagnose what is causing the whining noise.

2. Loud Bang

Sometimes people experience a loud bang or a loud pop when they turn their furnace on. This can be caused by a few different things like a dusty furnace ignitor or a dusty furnace burner. When the furnace burner is dirty it can keep the burners from igniting and this will cause the gas to build up and when the gas finally ignites it makes a loud banging noise.

This is a problem that you want to take care of as soon as possible because it can cause a safety problem. One of those explosions can cause the heat exchanger to crack which can result in a carbon monoxide leak. You can also end up having to replace the heat exchanger if it completely goes out which will be a much more expensive repair.

3. Scraping Noise

If you ever hear scraping noises such as metal scraping metal, it means that something is loose and has to be fixed immediately. This means that there is more than likely a problem with your blower wheel.

If the blower wheel ever goes, the furnace will not be able to heat up your home and it will have to be repaired by a tech.

4. Rumbling Sounds

Hearing a gentle woosh is normal when you first turn on a furnace, but if you hear that gentle swoosh turn into a rumble it might be trouble. If the rumbling sounds continue after the furnace goes through a heating cycle and switches off it might be a burner issue.

This can lead to high levels of carbon monoxide inside your home, therefore you want to turn it off ASAP and call a tech.

Now You Know the Top Furnace Making Noises

As you can see there are a few possible answers to the question “why is my furnace making noises?” Hopefully, now you feel equipped to either tackle the funny noises on your own or you can always call a pro in your area to help you out.

What Causes Termites? This Is What You Need to Know

Did you know that termites cause more than $5 billion worth of damage and isn’t covered by homeowner’s insurance? Termites can be a very serious problem for homeowners.

Read this guide to learn about what causes termites and how you can avoid them.

What Attracts Termites?

There are more causes of termites than just wood. Although these pests are attracted to wood, the different types of termites have different preferences. Three of the most common termites are drywood, dampwood, and subterranean termites.

Like their names suggest, drywood and dampwood termites invade dry or moist wood in the home. So, what causes subterranean termites? These types of bugs will infest any wood that is connecting to the ground because they want to be around moist soil.

Subterranean termites will construct mud tubes to move from wood to soil and vis versa. This will act as their link to hydration. It could also be a route to the wood they want to infest above ground.

Homeowners may accidentally bring termites into their homes with firewood or lumber. Otherwise, the termites are attracted to moisture, the house foundation, and building cracks. If you live in an area where there is constant humidity, you will experience more termite activity.

The main factors involving what causes termites are explained below:

Moisture

The main answer to why do I have termites is moisture. This can be due to leaky pipes, poor airflow, improper damage, and more.

If you have any of these issues, you will likely see dampwood and subterranean termites because they enjoy a humid environment. Dampwood termites are especially attracted to wood that has water damage. On the other hand, a subterranean termite cannot live without moisture surrounding it.

Wood in the House Foundation

If the foundation of your home is touching wood, it is more susceptible to a subterranean termite infestation. This attraction happens because this species of termites have to move through soil or wood.

Certain things can lead termites to access structural wood. Keep mulch, firewood, and overgrown shrubs further away from the home.

Building Cracks

A crack in the foundation of the home equals easy access for termites. Subterranean termites can build their mud tubes in these crevices so that they can come inside.

Cracks near doors and windows are especially risky if you want to keep termites out. These openings allow any species of termite to come in. They can start colonies easier this way.

How Do You Get Termites Out?

The best way to get rid of these pests is to look at what causes termites. Since the most common reasons are moisture, the house foundation, and building cracks, you can stop them in their tracks. Prevent moisture from occurring and seal up any cracks.

The best way to get termites out is by getting pest inspections.

What Causes Termites Explained

Now that you know what causes termites you can work to actively prevent them. Don’t let these annoying pests get into your home and cause major damage.

5 Tips for Hiring the Right Garage Door Repair Company

The average garage door repair costs between $125 and $290. If you’re like most people, you don’t have that kind of extra cash to toss at an unexpected repair.

But before you take that trip to Home Depot, you should know that garage door repairs are best left to the experts. Moreover, finding a garage door repair company in your area doesn’t have to be hard!

Here are five steps you can use!

1. Take Photos and Document the Damage

The more you understand about your garage door’s malfunction, the better you can assess and estimate the cost of repair. Before reaching out to a local repair business, make sure you can provide a clear picture of the issue.

If you can, take photos showing any broken belts or damage to the door itself.

Then, pay close attention to any strange noises the door may make during operation and make note of anything “off” about your garage door.

2. Read Reviews

While a business’s website can be a strong indication of their work, they only highlight the positive. To get the full scope of what hiring a local repair company is like, start by reading their online reviews.

What are people saying about the company? Does the business respond to reviews and address concerns appropriately? Do multiple reviews highlight the same issues?

You can learn a lot through reviews. Take your time and be sure to read an array of reviews, not just the one-star or five-star assessments.

3. Check Better Business Bureau Ratings

By now you should have at least a few companies to contact. But before you do, head to the Better Business Bureau website and see if there are any complaints lodged against your local repair company.

While the BBB isn’t perfect, it’s a valuable tool for spotting scams and past issues.

4. Ask for Quotes

The good news is, this shouldn’t be hard to find. Any garage door repair company worth your time and money should have an option to request a quote right on their homepage as https://www.directserviceoverhead.com does.

Moreover, they’ll likely reach out to you after to see if you have any questions.

While it’s important to remember that an online quote is just an estimate, having a ballpark idea of what your repairs will cost can help you save quite a bit of cash, especially when you’re able to compare quotes from multiple companies.

Try and get between three and four quotes together before coming to a final decision.

5. Check Into Customer Service Options

A faulty garage door can prove hazardous to yourself, your family, and your vehicle. If a repairperson doesn’t get the job done, or worse, does a shoddy job, they could put your home at risk.

Before signing anything, double-check a company’s customer service. Are they responsible and accountable? Do they get back to you promptly?

These are underrated traits. A trustworthy repair company is going to make sure you’re completely satisfied with their work, even if it means coming back to finish the job.

Hiring the Right Garage Door Repair Company Made Easy

If you take one thing away from this article, let it be this: hiring a garage door repair company takes research. And lots of it.

But if you follow these tips, you should be able to find a great repair service in no time.

And while you’re here, make sure to check out some of the other great content on our blog!

Home Protection: Flood Insurance Coverage

What’s the worst thing you can think of happening to your home? Most people think of fire, but for people who live in easily flooded areas, there’s another threat: flood damage. Do you sometimes find your home has been harmed by a deluge of water?

If so, you need flood insurance coverage.

But how do you go about getting it? How do you get the best rates and coverage? Keep reading to learn more!

Benefits of Flood Insurance Coverage

Why should you purchase flood insurance coverage? Shouldn’t water damage be covered by homeowner’s insurance?

These are valid questions to ask when you’re considering getting flood insurance. Unfortunately, many homeowner’s insurance policies don’t cover water damage caused by floods.

Because of this, people who rely on their homeowner’s policy might find themselves spending thousands of dollars to repair their homes.

Flood insurance coverage is valuable because it protects homeowners from having to drain their pockets to repair their homes. No one purchases a home planning for it to experience flooding.

Yet, flooding still happens. In fact, even 1 inch of flooding can cause $25,000 in damages.

As a result, it pays to become prepared, and the best way to prepare is to get flood insurance.

How to Get Flood Insurance

You can purchase flood insurance via the company providing your homeowner’s insurance.

Because of this, you can just give them a call and get all of your coverage needs met.

You can also buy the insurance through the FEMA flood insurance coverage program, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

How Much Does Flood Insurance Cost?

Like all other insurance plans, this varies based on several different criteria.

In general, insurance plans available through FEMA are less expensive. Flood insurance coverage available through private insurance companies costs more.

Prices also vary by where you live. Even though any home can suffer from flooding, the pricetag for flood insurance goes up if you live in a place likely to flood.

Want to save more with on your flood insurance? Consider moving to somewhere on higher ground.

Which Type of Flood Insurance to Choose

If you’re wondering which type of flood insurance to choose, you’re not alone.

After all, it’s hard to know just what you covered unless a flood occurs.

To make this decision, consider the likelihood of your home needing maximum flood insurance coverage. If you live in a place that has little coverage, save some money by buying lower coverage insurance.

Yet, if you reside in an area that undergoes a lot of flooding, you might want to consider spending more on increased coverage.

Looking for More Home Advice?

You want your home to work well for you for many years to come. That’s why purchasing flood insurance coverage serves as a fantastic opportunity to keep your house functioning well.

But all homeowners know that you need more than insurance to make a home a place you want to stay. You want it to reflect you and your personality and keep you safe.

Living Big in a Tiny Home: 8 Creative Design Ideas for Maximizing Space

10,000 people in the United States live in tiny homes. Tiny homes are perfect if you want to downsize, lower your expenses, cut back on your energy usage, and be kind to the environment.

While it might seem strange to go from a large home to a tiny home, living big in a tiny home is completely doable! There are plenty of ways to maximize your space in your tiny home to make it feel organized and homey!

1. Declutter

Living in a tiny home means you might have to get rid of some of your things. One of the best ways to do that is to declutter all your belongings. Some people who move into a tiny home adopt a lifestyle of minimalism. It is a lifestyle that means that you live only with what you need.

If you’re moving to a tiny home, go through all your things and decide what you need to bring and what you can donate. Chances are when you get into your tiny home. You may need to declutter even more.

2. Shelving

When you have a tiny home, you need to take advantage of every space possible! Some of the best space comes from hanging shelving on the walls.

Start at the top of the ceiling and decide how much space you can devote to shelving. There are many different shelving sizes and options, and they work perfectly in every room, especially in the kitchen. You can utilize both the top and bottom, buy attaching hooks and hanging utensils or other kitchen necessities on them.

3. Shipping Container

If you’re unable to find a tiny home that suits your needs, many people convert a shipping container into a tiny house.

The great part about having a shipping container converted to a tiny home is that you can create any kind of layout you want. That means your home is “customized” and designed to fit you and your needs. Putting storage where you need it, instead of fitting it into an already-made home, can be a huge benefit.

4. Containers And Jars

Another part of maximizing storage is making sure that you are organized. When you go shopping, it’s much better to have containers and jars that fit neatly together into space than it is to make everything fit.

For non-perishable items, you can store it in labeled containers or jars. For canned goods, there are creative ways to stack and rotate them. Knowing that everything has a place helps keep it all together and declutter.

5. Look Below

Not only should you take advantage of space up above, but look below as well!

Long, slim containers that can fit underneath beds, furniture, cabinets, and other places off the floor, can hold many items! Consider storing things like out-of-season clothing, bathroom items, hobby products, kitchen soaps, and more. Anything that’s fairly small can typically fit underneath fixtures.

Some storage bins have wheels that make it easy to pull the bin out from underneath.

6. Out-of-Sight Storage

The best storage is hidden in plain sight! Storage like hollowed-out ottomans, seating benches, false books, and more. These storage spaces can hold various items such as valuables, kids’ toys, games, blankets, and anything else you can think of.

You can even design a table to use as an island to prepare food or Murphy’s bed to hide more shelving and storage.

7. Beds Up!

Speaking of beds, if you’re stretched for space, consider investing in Murphy’s bed.

A Murphy’s bed is a bed that lifts and “stores” against the wall. When it’s not in use, it’s up on the wall, allowing you to have more space during the day. Murphy’s beds come in different sizes, so if you have a challenging space, you can find something to meet your needs.

8. Wheeled Carts

Wheeled carts are perfect for tiny homes because you can often fit a lot of objects on them. Moving them from room to room is also great since you can store an abundance of things on them and maximizing your space in other room.s

If they’re metal, you have even more room for storage because there are storage magnets where you can hold things like paper clips, push pins, spices, and more.

9. Vertical Greens

Surely, having a tiny home means that you likely spend more time in the outdoors. But what if you love having plants inside your home, or rather, you enjoy having an herb garden?

Having greens in your home is possible with a tiny home with the help of a vertical garden. A vertical garden is on the wall using a wall planter. You can likely plant any kind of plant in a vertical garden as long as it isn’t too big.

10. Charging Stations

Living in a tiny home doesn’t mean that you have to give up technology! Many people still utilize things like WiFi and smartphones in their homes.

Charging all these things is sure to take up some space, but if you have a designated charging station in a drawer means that you free up precious counter space. Plus, while charging in the station, you can focus on other things.

Living Big in a Tiny Home

While tiny homes may seem intimidating and impossible to keep organized, living big in a tiny home is possible and could even be fun! Start planning your tiny home layout today, and get ready to live big!

5 Tips on How to Get Rid of the Bugs You Find in Your House

A study of 50 American homes found that each house had between 32 and 211 different arthropods (such as ants, spiders, and beetles) living in it.

So, how do you get rid of the bugs you find in your house?

Let’s explore our top five methods for successfully eliminating those annoying household pests.

1. Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Eliminate Fruit Flies

Fruit flies are a nuisance, but apple cider vinegar can be used as a trap. All you need is:

  • A few mason jars or coffee mugs
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Dish soap

Pour two to three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into your jar or mug. Add a drop of dish soap. The soap breaks the vinegar’s tension and makes the flies drown.

Place the jars in areas where the fruit flies are most present. The flies will be attracted to the smell of the vinegar but will drown once they hit the liquid. As more flies enter your trap, don’t forget to rinse and replace the jars.

2. Sprinkle Black Pepper to Get Rid of Ants

Ant complaints are one of the most common bug problems. Fortunately, a simple ingredient in your cupboard acts as a natural ant repeller: black pepper.

Look for areas where the ants congregate. Sprinkle a dash of black pepper, and the ants will flee. You can also put black pepper in your cabinets and other ant-infested areas to prevent the bugs from returning.

3. Natural Oils Repel Bugs You Find in Your House

When it comes to getting rid of bugs, try using essential oils.

Lavender oil naturally repels fleas, flies, mosquitos, and moths. Keep lavender plants around your house or spray lavender oil in bug-infested areas.

Peppermint oil eliminates ants, spiders, and mosquitos. Spray the oil around your home or use mint leaves to keep the bugs away.

If these natural methods aren’t doing the trick, sometimes pest control professionals are necessary. These experts will eliminate infestations, while essential oils and plants can prevent the bugs from returning.

4. Try Baking Soda and Sugar to Kill Roaches

Dealing with bugs is one thing, but no one wants to see a cockroach scurrying across their kitchen floor. But a little concoction of baking soda and sugar can attract and kill the roaches.

Mix powdered sugar with baking soda in a shallow bowl or plate. Place the mixture in areas you typically find cockroaches.

The insects will be attracted to the sugar, but the baking soda creates stomach gas that kills the roaches. The next morning, you should find a few dead cockroaches near your trap.

5. Prevent Critters Using Lemon

The key to successful bug control is keeping a clean sink. The smell of lingering food attracts ants, fruit flies, and other insects.

Prevent bugs inside your home by leaving lemon rinds in your sink. The tart odor naturally repels insects. You can also squeeze fresh lemon juice on a paper towel and wipe it over your sink or countertops to keep bugs out of your kitchen.
