What are Irrational Numbers?

In mathematics, there are various types of numbers such as real numbers, natural numbers, whole numbers, negative and positive numbers, and so on. Similarly, irrational numbers are the type of numbers that can be written or expressed in the form of a simple fraction. Irrational numbers can also be defined as real numbers which cannot be written or represented in the form of p/q or a/b where q or b is not equal to zero. The opposite of irrational numbers is rational numbers. Those numbers can be expressed in the form of simple fractions i.e., real numbers or in the form of p/q where q is not equal to the number 0. Some examples of rational numbers are as follows: ¾, ⅚, 4, 8, etc. Some examples of irrational numbers are as follows: √5, √8, √3, etc. In this article, we will try to cover some basic aspects of irrational numbers such as properties of these numbers, comparison from rational numbers, and do a brief analysis about them.

Properties of Irrational Numbers

As mentioned above, irrational numbers are the type of numbers that can be written or expressed in the form of a simple fraction. Let us look into the properties of these numbers. Some of them are mentioned below:

  • If we add an irrational number and a rational number, the resultant value will always be a rational number. For example, ‘x’ is an irrational number, and ‘y’ is a rational number, then x + y = z which is a rational number. Therefore, the sum of a rational and irrational number is equivalent to a rational number.
  • The arithmetic operation of multiplication with a number that is irrational and with a rational number that is non-zero in nature will provide you with an irrational number.
  • The least common divisor or multiple of a number that is irrational may exist or may not exist.
  • If we add or multiply two irrational numbers, the resultant value always comes as a rational number. For example, when two irrational numbers such as √5 and √5 are multiplied the answer comes = 5 which is a rational number.
  • You may observe that the set of the number which is rational may be closed during the process of multiplication. But, in irrational numbers, the contrary happens.

Rational Numbers Vs Irrational Numbers

In the next few points, we will carry out the comparison of rational and irrational numbers.

  • Irrational numbers are the type of numbers that can be written or expressed in the form of a simple fraction whereas rational numbers can be represented in the form of a simple fraction.
  • The irrational numbers cannot be expressed in the form of a/b or p/q where b or q is not equal to zero whereas the rational numbers can be written in the form of p/q where q is not equal to zero.
  • Some examples of rational numbers are as follows: ¾, ⅚, 4, 8, etc. Some examples of irrational numbers are as follows: √5, √8, √3, etc.

The Brief Guide That Makes Conducting a Financial Audit Simple

Are you worried about the financial stability of your business? Are you questioning whether or not everything is in order? If so, then you need to conduct a financial audit.

Without an accurate understanding of your company’s financial situation, it can be difficult to make informed business decisions.

However, this can be a daunting task if you don’t know where to start. That’s why we’ve created this guide, which provides a simple step-by-step process for conducting a financial audit.

Plan For The Audit

Many business owners put off financial audits because they think they will be complex and time-consuming. However, if you plan ahead and set aside enough time for the audit, it can be a relatively simple process.

First, you’ll need to determine what financial information you need to review. This may include:

  • past financial statements
  • bank account
  • credit card statements
  • invoices
  • contracts

Once you have determined what information you need, create a timeline for gathering it. This will help ensure that you have all of the relevant data before beginning the audit process.

Finally, make sure that you have access to all of the necessary financial records. If some are missing or unavailable, try to reconstruct them using available information.

Review Financial Statements

The financial statements are the heart of any financial audit. They provide a snapshot of your company’s financial condition at a specific point in time.

There are three primary financial statements that you will need to review: the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement.

The balance sheet shows your business’s assets, liabilities, and equity as of a particular date. The income statement measures your company’s revenue and expenses over a period of time, typically one year. The cash flow statement shows how much cash has come in and gone out of your business over a set period of time.

Analyze Financial Trends

Once you have reviewed the financial statements, it’s time to start analyzing the data. This involves looking for trends and patterns in your company’s financial history.

For example, are your expenses increasing while your revenue remains stagnant? Are you having trouble paying your bills on time? These are all important things to note when assessing your business’s financial health.

By identifying any negative trends, you can take corrective action before they cause more serious problems down the road.

Hire Audit Experts

If you’re not comfortable conducting the financial audit yourself, you can hire a professional to do it for you.

Audit experts have the training and experience to help you navigate through complex financial data. They can also provide valuable insights into your company’s financial health and suggest ways to improve it.

They can even audit your software and risk processes to make sure they are running smoothly and compliant with industry regulations.

Debunking the Most Common Manufacturing Myths That Exist Today

In the United States manufacturing accounts for more than 11% of total economic output.

You may have heard a lot of negative things said about the manufacturing industry. It is important to remember that these are manufacturing myths, and don’t represent reality. Manufacturing continues to be one of the most important aspects of the economy, from an engine to a car.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular myths about manufacturing.

1. Manufacturing is Automated

One of the great myths about the manufacturing industry, automation has increased in recent decades but doesn’t represent the whole. From the lowest level worker to the highest executive, the human side of manufacturing is more important now than ever.

While automation has helped lower the cost of manufacturing, that has diversified the jobs in manufacturing, not removed them.

2. The End is Near

This has been said for decades, with many people predicting doom for the manufacturing sector. The reality is that this decade is proving to be one of the best, with manufacturing jobs and revenues on the rise. Depending on the types of manufacturing you specialize in, this could be the busiest time in your career.

With every new technology that is invented, new manufacturing opens up. This is one reason why technology hasn’t destroyed the job market.

3. Environmental Danger

A lot of people think that manufacturing is bad for the environment, but modern manufacturing processes prove this incorrect. The manufacturing industry has led the way in a lot of green initiatives, changing the face of the industry and the environment. If you want to be part of the solution, consider a job in manufacturing.

Part of the reason for this is the improvements in resource planning, waste reduction, and logistics. For example, this is a chemical ERP application.

4. Factories are all in Developing Countries

While there has been a lot said about the offshoring of manufacturing, the fact remains that the United States is one of the most attractive places to build a factory. Other developed countries like Germany and Japan also top this list. Far from being only for poor countries, manufacturing is for everyone.

Rapid prototyping and the product development process are all cornerstones of successful manufacturing, and they require hosts of highly skilled individuals. Manufacturing isn’t leaving the United States during our lifetimes.

5. Manufacturing doesn’t pay well

In many places getting a job at a factory or with a manufacturing firm are among the highest paid jobs in the area. Modern manufacturing requires attention to detail, technical skill, and dedication. If you show these things, you’ll be rewarded with money, benefits, and a plentiful vacation.

Manufacturing Myths

Manufacturing myths have a lot of different origins, many of them based on politics. The reality is that while many people will try to scare you, manufacturing isn’t going anywhere. It has been the heart of the middle class for decades and will continue to be a strong force in the job market.

How to Enhance Your Company’s Hiring Process

It’s the first quarter of 2022. How is your workforce looking? If you’re struggling to fill roles, retain employees, and motivate workers, then it’s time to rethink your current strategy.

The right hiring process can help you identify the right candidates, attract them to your business, and keep them happy in their roles. Yet, a weak one can have the exact opposite effect.

Today, we’re sharing a few tips that can help you strengthen your approach and transform your workplace from the inside out.

Analyzing Your Current Hiring Process

Before we dive into how to hire employees the right way, it’s important to take a close look at what you’re currently doing. Even if you don’t have a formally defined procedure, there’s still a method that you’re following.

A hiring process is any type of step-by-step method that your company uses to identify, recruit, and hire employees. If yours is optimized for success, then it will help you find prospects whose talents are ideally aligned with your brand.

While the unique elements of your process will be different from someone else’s, there are still basic guidelines that should govern your strategy. The general steps included in any hiring process will include:

  • Creating compelling job descriptions
  • Advertising openings and recruiting new hires
  • Reviewing candidate applications
  • Conducting interviews (via telephone and in person)
  • Running background checks
  • Contacting references
  • Making hiring decisions
  • Extending job offers
  • Hiring, introducing, and onboarding new employees

Chances are, you are currently following this basic strategy, already. Yet, have you put steps in place to make sure you’re optimizing everything correctly? Let’s take a look at a few moves that can take your hiring process from drab to dynamic.

Encourage Colleague Participation

Hiring should not exist in a silo. If you’re the only one making the important decisions and reaching out to the candidates, then it’s easy to become overwhelmed and burned out. When this happens, it’s easier for unqualified prospects to enter into the gates.

As you seek to find employees who would be a great match for your company, invite your colleagues to join the cause. Allow them to sit in on the interviews, and even ask a few questions. After all, they’ll also be working with the new hire, and this gives them the opportunity to ensure they’re a good fit.

After the interview, discuss your initial observations. You need to know how your team members perceive each candidate, including if they think they’re a good match personality-wise. This helps offset your workload and encourages a more collaborative approach.

Create a Dynamic Brand

Did you know that 75% of all job applicants are passive candidates? This means that they’re employed and aren’t actively looking for a new job, but they’re staying open to any possibility.

One way to encourage them to give your company a second look? Create a brand that they can’t resist. Not only can this help you motivate new prospects, but it also lowers employee turnover.

A few ways you can strengthen your brand include:

  • Optimize your online presence
  • Respond to client reviews
  • Stay active on social media
  • Keep your company profile up-to-date
  • Share regular updates on your company’s culture

When you create an active and engaging company brand, recruiting almost takes care of itself. Suddenly, interested applicants will be reaching out to you, and not the other way around.

Strengthen Your Job Descriptions

Are you running into a wall, unable to find the right candidate to fill your open positions? There’s a good chance that you’re not asking the right way.

A job description is the first interaction that an applicant has with your company. Make sure you’re making the right impression. While it’s important to make sure you’re clear on the job expectations, resist the urge to include a long list of duties and requirements.

Instead, use most of that space to describe what your company can do for the applicant. Briefly discuss your company culture, and the perks of working on your team. Keep it brief and concise, and highlight only the most important attributes that a qualified candidate will need.

Be Prepared to Act Quickly

Research shows that the best talent moves off the job market in just 10 days. If you come across a candidate whose skills, expertise, and experience match what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to reach out and make that connection.

Even if you aren’t 100% sure that they’re the right person for the job, keep the conversation open and reach out frequently. Use this time to discuss more details about the position, and give them the opportunity to ask any questions that they might have.

This way, you can stay on their radar and keep them engaged. Otherwise, dragging your feet could cause them to lose interest and abandon your offer for a competitor’s.

Avoid Offbeat Questions

We’ve all been there.

You’re sitting in a conference room and a prospective employer wants to learn more about your personality. So, they ask you a random question such as, “If life were a game of baseball, what position would you play?” Or, “Who would you choose if you could have dinner with three people from the past?”

While the answers you receive from those types of questions might be interesting, they’re unlikely to yield much information about a candidate’s actual competencies. Don’t waste your time (or theirs) with these nonsensical questions that don’t add any value to your interview.

Instead, find out if they have what it takes to do the job well. Ask them to describe their skill set, and tell you about their most recent work experience. You can ask questions about their interests and try to gauge their character, but make sure the inquires you pose are relevant to the opening in question.

Leverage the Power of Technology

We live in the Digital Age, and we now have easier and more advanced access to candidates than ever before. With just a few clicks, you can reach a global network of qualified individuals who could be a great fit for your company.

Why not use that connectivity to your advantage?

Post your job openings on your company’s social media page, and encourage your followers to share the link with their own communities. You can also use these platforms to learn more about each candidate, including their interests, hobbies, and lifestyle.

Another benefit to optimizing your social media presence? It sends a message to current and prospective employees that you’re a tech-focused company that’s ready to keep up with the times. In 2022, a company without a Facebook page or a Twitter profile can look antiquated and out of touch, and that does nothing to improve your recruitment efforts.

Another way to stand out as a tech-centric workplace? Consider automating some or all of your onboarding documents. A solution like WorkBright’s Remote I-9 program allows employees to complete 100% of their onboarding forms remotely, before their first day.

Conduct Work Tests

Are you looking for an effective way to make sure that your top candidates are up to the challenge of working on your team? Consider setting up a trial work period or a testing phase, where they can get a real-world sense of what to expect.

While these scenarios might require a small up-front investment, the results are well worth it. This is a great way to ensure that the skills and qualifications relayed in an interview are indeed accurate. In addition, this initial stage also allows you to see how each candidate interacts with the other people on your team.

Don’t Neglect Personality Checks

Are you in between a few candidates, and can’t decide which one you should hire? As long as everyone has the same basic skill set, it’s time to take personalities into account.

As you review each individual, keep in mind that they can eventually acquire certain secondary skills. However, they can’t exactly change their personality. Consider how each one will fit into your company culture, and whether there will be any pushback or resistance from the team when you bring them on board.

Even the best-qualified hire could bring your entire company down if there’s friction right from the start. Yet, it’s important to make sure you’re measuring them fairly. As you analyze their personality traits, make sure you’re only considering ones that are relevant to the job.

For instance, if you’re hiring a new accountant, you don’t necessarily need them to be compassionate and empathetic. However, those same skills are critical in a teaching or healthcare position.

Manage Your Online Reviews

Wondering why you’re having a difficult time retaining or recruiting employees? It might be time to check your company’s online reviews. If past employees are leaving negative feedback on sites like Glassdoor, then it could have a detrimental effect on your recruitment strategy.

Keep an eye on those testimonials, and reach out to clarify them if necessary. If you notice details that are incorrect, you can also take actions to remediate them. While you can’t exactly erase your profile of any negativity, people want to see that you’re taking steps to improve your reputation and keep future employees happy.

Optimize Your Hiring Process Today

A company is only as strong as its greatest asset: the employees who keep it going! As you look to expand your workforce, it helps to make sure you have the right hiring process in place, first.

The steps above can help you optimize every step of this journey, from initial engagement to final onboarding. Along the way, you can rest assured that you’ll attract qualified, interested employees who will strengthen your team and help you reach new clients.

How to Replace a Shingle Roof: A Guide

Every year in the United States the roofing industry grows by around 3.8%.

This means that every year more and more people need to have their roofs replaced. If your home and roof are getting older, you may want to know how to replace a shingle roof. Shingles are the most common form of roofing material you’ll interact with, so knowing how to work with them will help the most.

Let’s take a look at what you need to know about replacing shingle roofs.

Local Ordinances

One thing you’ll need to research before you get started is what your local government or HOA requires. In a lot of cases, they will want the roof to have no more than one or two layers of shingles. This means that you’ll have to remove the old roofing materials before you put new shingles on.

The reason for these requirements makes sense because more shingles on the roof increase the chances for a leak. You don’t want to have to deal with water damage inside your home, and having multiple layers of shingles will increase the cost of roof repair.

Roofing Tools

You’ll want to take an inventory of the tools you have available, and compare it to a list of what you’ll need. This is a list of basic tools, you may find that you’ll need more than this.

The tools you can’t do without are:

  • Roofing Nail Gun
  • Hammer
  • Utility Knife
  • Shingle Removing Tool or Shovel
  • Hammer Tacker Stapler
  • Air Compressor
  • Scoop Shovel
  • Pry Bar

In addition to these tools, you’ll want to make sure you have a dumpster ready to go. The number of shingles that come off of a roof can surprise people. The removal and clean-up phase are vital, or else your yard will have bits of shingle and even screws or nails.

Strip the Roof

The first step when you begin roof replacement is to remove all the old shingles. This will also tear up and remove the felt paper that is underneath. As the roof becomes clear of shingles, check for damage on the decking or wood shake that is under the shingles.

If you notice any damage, you’ll have to replace those areas before you can begin to shingle the roof. Damage to the decking of your roof will often be noticeable in discolored sections, bulging or sagging sections, or rotted areas. If you see any of this, it is important to cut out and replace those sections of wood.

Apply Felt Paper

With the old shingles removed, you can now move on to the roof installation. The first thing you need to do is to apply a layer of felt paper to the roof. This will help to seal the roof, preventing moisture and water from reaching the wood.

Felt paper comes in rolls, and you will need to unroll it on the roof as you go. You can then use a staple gun or a nail gun to secure the felt paper to the roof decking. If this is your first time roofing, don’t worry too much about mistakes, felt paper is cheap.

Shingle the Roof

There are many different roofing types, but shingles are by far the most popular. Once your roof is covered with felt paper it will be time to begin to move to shingling the roof. This will require you to place the shingles and then put in one nail per tab.

Make sure that as you put on more shingles they overlap, this way they seal together and don’t allow for water to find its way into your home. If the roof is too steep to stand on you’ll need to anchor wood platforms to the roof so that you’ll have somewhere to stand while working.

You’ll want to make sure that the weather is right for roofing. You don’t want to roof in cold weather, because the shingles won’t seal together and can be blown off much easier. This is why summer is the best time to replace a shingle roof.

Prepare Peaks and Valleys

With peaks, you’ll need to cut shingles down to the right size so that they’ll fit. Often this means removing the first and third tab on an angle. Once you’ve done that, make sure to keep the shingles you’ve modified off to the side, you’ll need them later.

For valleys, there are two ways to take care of them. The traditional way is to lace the shingles together to create a valley, but that isn’t the preferred method these days. It is more common now to lay in aluminum paneling which is built for valleys, so that water doesn’t get trapped or seep into the roof.

Apply Peak Shingles and Finish Valleys

Now you can put the peak shingles you’ve made onto the roof. Remember they have to lace together to create a solid peak, so that water will flow off of the roof. Once the metal for the valleys is in place, make sure that they too are shingled in, so that there are no catches or places for water to invade the roof.

Be Ready to Make Mistakes

If you don’t know how to replace a shingle roof, prepare to make mistakes. Between the cost of tools and materials, there’s a reason why so many people turn to a roofing company. It is a lot less work, but also a lot safer to have the work done by a professional service.

Any mistake that you make and don’t correct can lead to a lot of expensive damage later.

How to Replace a Shingle Roof

Knowing how to replace a shingle roof is not the only thing required, experience helps a ton. Knowing what to do and doing it are two different things. Make sure to research in your area, and take all necessary steps for the proper installation of your roof.

The Ultimate Guide on How to Become a Better Cook

How to become a better cook is one of those topics that has no simple answer, but is high on many peoples’ wish lists. Whether you are cooking for yourself or family and friends, everyone wants to be a better cook.

Preparing a delicious meal by yourself, from scratch, and then enjoying it (shared or not) is, after all, one of life’s more satisfying experiences.

Paraphrasing Julia Child, it doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated. Just make good food from fresh ingredients. The question is, how do you get to that point?

Want some proof of how universal the desire to become a better cook is? Just look at the popularity of the Food Channel or any of the other cooking shows on TV.

And cookbooks are selling better than ever, too. More than 17 million were sold in the first half of 2018 in the United States alone. That marked a staggering increase of 21% over 2017.

Clearly, a lot of people want to become better cooks. Read on as we take a look at some top cooking tips from the experts.

Keep Cooking and Be Critical

A common theme from professional chefs and cooks alike is simple. Keep cooking. Every time you try something, you’ll get better at it.

Don’t only listen to the folks you cooked for. They will almost always tell you it was good. After all, they have a vested interest in being complimentary. You cooked. They didn’t have to.

Instead, be critical of your work. Was the seasoning right? Was the protein cooked to perfection? How about the timing? Were the veggies done before the main course? What could you have done better?

What will you change when you cook that same recipe again? And you should. Remember, keep cooking.

Read the Entire Recipe: Start to Finish

Have you ever gotten most of the way through a recipe and then, yikes! At the last minute, you discover you are missing a key ingredient.

That’s not fun. If you’ve got people waiting to eat, it can be a disaster. And it’s preventable. Read the recipe, start to finish. Think through all the steps and estimate the time involved.

That’s the key to no surprises. You’ve planned ahead. You’ve got everything prepped and ready. Now it’s just a matter of following the steps.

Plan Ahead: Make a List and Check it Twice

Cooking should be fun, not a stress-induced nightmare. One of the best ways to have your cooking flow without snags is simple. Take a few minutes to plan and make a list of what you will need. It’s a simple step and one that’s often ignored.

Now you don’t have to get down in the weeds and make a five-tab spreadsheet. Some people will. You won’t.

But you will make an ingredients list. And if you’re cooking a whole meal with several dishes, you’ll make some notes on what to start when. You’ll know how long each dish takes so it all comes together seamlessly.

Getting Fancy: Mise en Place

That’s a fancy French term all professional chefs learn the first day in school. It’s that important. But what it means is not very fancy. It means, ‘everything in its place.’ Simple, right?

Like Read the Recipe and Make a List, it’s all about prepping and organizing. Before you start cooking, make sure everything you need for each dish is out and ready. Remember? Planning and prep eliminate stress.

Onions chopped, garlic minced, cabbage shredded, spices ready. No surprises, right? That applies to your equipment, too.

The Sharpest Knife in the Drawer

It might be nice if you could afford it, but the truth is you don’t need the most expensive and newest knives, utensils, and equipment. Remember, nobody cares what kind of paintbrush Van Gogh used.

You do need sharp knives and reliable utensils. You do need good cast iron pans and good pots in the right sizes. And you need to know how to use them and take care of them.

The same goes for your oven, your cooktop, and any other equipment you are going to use.

That sweet new grill? Use it a few times before you invite the gang over for a fancy Sunday barbeque. All of these grills and smokers have a learning curve. Don’t practice when it’s game time.

Get Fresh: Get Local

There’s a reason professionals get up early and do their shopping before the rest of us are having coffee. They need to make sure they get the best and freshest local produce, meats, and fish.

It makes a difference in how your meals will taste. A big difference. Fresh is always better than frozen. Local is always fresher – and usually less processed.

Ingredients shipped across the country or around the world need to survive the trip. Local came from the farm down the road this morning.

Buy the best ingredients your budget can afford and buy what’s in season whenever you can. When you’re looking at recipes, ask yourself what’s in season where you live? Using those ingredients means fresher and local.

If you happen to be living in Antarctica, that’s going to be a problem. For most of us, it isn’t. Cooking what’s in season means better tasting food and it’s good for our local economies, too.

How to Become a Better Cook: Keep Cooking

Practice makes perfect. Before you know it, it’s no longer cooking for beginners. You’ll have developed a great sense of what ingredients pair well with others, which spices and condiments are complimentary, and the benefits of contrasts.

Recipes will become starting points. You’ll see a recipe and think, hmm, if I take that and change this, substitute this for that. When you get to that point, you are officially a good cook!

How to become a better cook? Plan and prep. Read recipes from start to finish. Have the equipment you need and know how to use it. Buy the best, freshest and local ingredients you can. Cook with the seasons in mind. Most of all, relax and have fun!
