What Causes Termites? This Is What You Need to Know

Did you know that termites cause more than $5 billion worth of damage and isn’t covered by homeowner’s insurance? Termites can be a very serious problem for homeowners.

Read this guide to learn about what causes termites and how you can avoid them.

What Attracts Termites?

There are more causes of termites than just wood. Although these pests are attracted to wood, the different types of termites have different preferences. Three of the most common termites are drywood, dampwood, and subterranean termites.

Like their names suggest, drywood and dampwood termites invade dry or moist wood in the home. So, what causes subterranean termites? These types of bugs will infest any wood that is connecting to the ground because they want to be around moist soil.

Subterranean termites will construct mud tubes to move from wood to soil and vis versa. This will act as their link to hydration. It could also be a route to the wood they want to infest above ground.

Homeowners may accidentally bring termites into their homes with firewood or lumber. Otherwise, the termites are attracted to moisture, the house foundation, and building cracks. If you live in an area where there is constant humidity, you will experience more termite activity.

The main factors involving what causes termites are explained below:

Moisture

The main answer to why do I have termites is moisture. This can be due to leaky pipes, poor airflow, improper damage, and more.

If you have any of these issues, you will likely see dampwood and subterranean termites because they enjoy a humid environment. Dampwood termites are especially attracted to wood that has water damage. On the other hand, a subterranean termite cannot live without moisture surrounding it.

Wood in the House Foundation

If the foundation of your home is touching wood, it is more susceptible to a subterranean termite infestation. This attraction happens because this species of termites have to move through soil or wood.

Certain things can lead termites to access structural wood. Keep mulch, firewood, and overgrown shrubs further away from the home.

Building Cracks

A crack in the foundation of the home equals easy access for termites. Subterranean termites can build their mud tubes in these crevices so that they can come inside.

Cracks near doors and windows are especially risky if you want to keep termites out. These openings allow any species of termite to come in. They can start colonies easier this way.

How Do You Get Termites Out?

The best way to get rid of these pests is to look at what causes termites. Since the most common reasons are moisture, the house foundation, and building cracks, you can stop them in their tracks. Prevent moisture from occurring and seal up any cracks.

The best way to get termites out is by getting pest inspections.

What Causes Termites Explained

Now that you know what causes termites you can work to actively prevent them. Don’t let these annoying pests get into your home and cause major damage.

5 Tips for Getting In Shape

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, over 80 percent of people living in the United States do not get enough exercise – both aerobic and muscle training. They also note that roughly 78 million Americans are considered obese and it’s been estimated that by 2030 half of all Americans will be considered obese.

That said, are you ready to commit to getting into shape yet? Whether you’re dealing with a weight problem, a health problem, or you’re merely desiring to feel better and have more energy, then check out these 5 great tips for getting fit.

1. Make yourself feel sexy — buy some sexy lingerie!

It’s important to find ways to feel sexy no matter where you’re at with your weight or your fitness journey. The best way to do this is by finding sexy lingerie that makes you feel hot as hell. Whether you’re looking for lingerie in the form of a new pair of lace panties, a lace bra, or maybe you’re looking for a more modest lingerie set like a teddy, a chemise, or a babydoll, you can easily find these sexy essentials at stores online like Spicy Lingerie.

If you’re not ready to feel sexy in a bra and panties just yet, Spicey Lingerie also has intimates such as bralettes, a panty set in hip-hugger cuts to cover more skin, and hosiery in all kinds of attractive designs. Or, if you have a special occasion coming up, you can check out their rompers, dresses, bodysuits, skirts, shapewear, or even their sleepwear. Looking good is all about feeling good, and a new pair of sexy women’s lingerie can do wonders for your confidence.

Bonus tip: if you join Spicey Lingerie’s newsletter, you will be notified about all their new arrivals as well as the best special discounts.

2. Consider a dietary supplement.

It’s important to make sure that all your vitamins and nutritional supplements are registered by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), follow cGMP testing for raw materials, and contain a private label. Just do a simple Google search of “vitamin manufacturers in USA” to find the best products.

Whether it’s multivitamins, probiotics, sports nutrition supplements, or custom formula, you’re sure to find great products with this private label supplement manufacturer. This vitamin manufacturer also offers products in soft gels, powders, gummies that come in multiple flavors, and capsules for however you prefer to take your vitamins and supplements.

3. Pay attention to your nutrition.

According to the US Department of Health & Human Services, Americans don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, eat too many added fats and sugars, and 90 percent eat more sodium than is recommended. When you begin to recognize your diet as important for keeping your body healthy, you can start to make the necessary adjustments in order to maintain a healthy weight, healthy body, and stay fit. Make sure you’re getting a plethora of different minerals from your diet (this will mean lots of fruits and veggies), limit your salt intake, added sugars, and unhealthy fats. Also, start changing the way you view the liquids in your diet – more water and less sugary drinks with empty calories.

4. Personalize your exercise plan.

Let’s be honest – the reason you often don’t stick to an exercise program is because you try to do the latest trendy workout, push yourself too hard or too fast leaving yourself feeling sore, exhausted, and miserable. It’s easy to give up in that situation. According to a WebMD article, studies show that people who are “internally motivated” – as in they work out because they want to – are more likely to not give up. Starting slow and finding a routine and workout that you enjoy will make you more likely to commit and get fit!

5. Set small and realistic goals.

Another thing that may stop you from getting in shape is setting huge unrealistic goals that lead to discouragement and frustration. A better solution is to set small goals that are realistic. A 2019 article by Harvard Health Publishing outlines the benefits of exercising for our health and how it helps in preventing diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. As well as that, exercise also improves our mood. This article also offers 26 things we can do throughout the day to get more physically active which include parking further away from your destination, walking instead of driving, and setting aside time to do manual housework – you’d be surprised how good of a workout mowing your own lawn or washing your own windows can be.

5 Finance Options When There Is More Month Than Money

Did you know nearly 80% of the American working force lives paycheck to paycheck? This is a systemic problem in our society that needs to change. However, that will take time and no small amount of effort.

So what do you do in the meantime if you need money sooner rather than later? What can you do when there’s more month than money?

Your best bet is to look into your finance options. But tread carefully here, as you don’t want to make your financial situation worse.

We’re here to help. Keep reading for your top five options.

1. Take Out a Personal Loan

If you have decent credit, you may be able to take out a traditional personal loan through your bank. However, most unsecured personal loans, even with good credit, come with higher interest rates.

If you plan to pay off the loan within a few months, this isn’t a big deal. However, if you hold onto the loan for several years, you’ll end up paying hundreds of dollars toward credit alone.

2. Use a Credit Card

If you don’t want to apply for another line of credit, you could use your credit card for the funding you need. You can either charge the money straight to the card or take out a cash advance, assuming you have room on it.

However, credit cards have exceedingly high interest rates. There are also additional charges for taking out a cash advance. This should only be used as a last resort.

3. Get a Bad Credit Loan

If you have bad credit but still require a loan, you’re not without finance options. There are companies that cater specifically to people in your situation. These smaller, short-term loans can be life-savers.

Check out your options for bad credit loans to see if they are an appropriate solution for your needs.

4. Take Out a Title Loan

Other finance options include title loans. As the name suggests, these loans provide funding using the title of your car as collateral. Should you fail to pay the loan back or make payments, the bank has the legal authority to repossess your vehicle.

This is a good option for people with poor credit, though it does carry extra risks.

5. Get a Loan From a Friend or Family Member

Finally, if you have friends or family members who have financial security, it may be worth it to approach them for help. You can tell them about your financial needs and ask if they’d be willing to extend a loan to you out of their own pocket.

If you go this route, make it clear that you’ll respect their decision either way. It’s also important that they know you’re taking their contribution seriously. Present a repayment plan to them so they know you’ll make paying them back a top priority.

Looking for More Finance Options and Advice?

We know how easy it is to fall between a rock and a hard place financially. As noted above, most Americans live paycheck to paycheck – all it takes is one financial emergency to throw things out of sync.

If you’re looking for more information and advice about finance options or finance in general, we can help. Be sure to check out some of our other articles before you go.

5 Tips for Hiring the Right Garage Door Repair Company

The average garage door repair costs between $125 and $290. If you’re like most people, you don’t have that kind of extra cash to toss at an unexpected repair.

But before you take that trip to Home Depot, you should know that garage door repairs are best left to the experts. Moreover, finding a garage door repair company in your area doesn’t have to be hard!

Here are five steps you can use!

1. Take Photos and Document the Damage

The more you understand about your garage door’s malfunction, the better you can assess and estimate the cost of repair. Before reaching out to a local repair business, make sure you can provide a clear picture of the issue.

If you can, take photos showing any broken belts or damage to the door itself.

Then, pay close attention to any strange noises the door may make during operation and make note of anything “off” about your garage door.

2. Read Reviews

While a business’s website can be a strong indication of their work, they only highlight the positive. To get the full scope of what hiring a local repair company is like, start by reading their online reviews.

What are people saying about the company? Does the business respond to reviews and address concerns appropriately? Do multiple reviews highlight the same issues?

You can learn a lot through reviews. Take your time and be sure to read an array of reviews, not just the one-star or five-star assessments.

3. Check Better Business Bureau Ratings

By now you should have at least a few companies to contact. But before you do, head to the Better Business Bureau website and see if there are any complaints lodged against your local repair company.

While the BBB isn’t perfect, it’s a valuable tool for spotting scams and past issues.

4. Ask for Quotes

The good news is, this shouldn’t be hard to find. Any garage door repair company worth your time and money should have an option to request a quote right on their homepage as https://www.directserviceoverhead.com does.

Moreover, they’ll likely reach out to you after to see if you have any questions.

While it’s important to remember that an online quote is just an estimate, having a ballpark idea of what your repairs will cost can help you save quite a bit of cash, especially when you’re able to compare quotes from multiple companies.

Try and get between three and four quotes together before coming to a final decision.

5. Check Into Customer Service Options

A faulty garage door can prove hazardous to yourself, your family, and your vehicle. If a repairperson doesn’t get the job done, or worse, does a shoddy job, they could put your home at risk.

Before signing anything, double-check a company’s customer service. Are they responsible and accountable? Do they get back to you promptly?

These are underrated traits. A trustworthy repair company is going to make sure you’re completely satisfied with their work, even if it means coming back to finish the job.

Hiring the Right Garage Door Repair Company Made Easy

If you take one thing away from this article, let it be this: hiring a garage door repair company takes research. And lots of it.

But if you follow these tips, you should be able to find a great repair service in no time.

And while you’re here, make sure to check out some of the other great content on our blog!

Embark on an Epic Adventure: How to Plan a Road Trip to Remember

The road trip. A classic American adventure. Throughout history, the road trip has been a symbol of freedom, fun, and excitement. And now more than ever, families are taking advantage of the opportunity to make memories with those they love most.

In fact, road trips have seen a 64% increase among families in the last 5 years!

Road trips provide a chance to bond with friends and family while experiencing the country in a unique and hands-on way. But in order to plan a road trip that you and your family will look back on fondly, you’ll need to be organized.

To help you in this endeavor, a guide to planning the ultimate road trip is outlined below, including everything you need to know before you get behind the wheel.

Prepare Your Car Beforehand

The condition of your car can make or break your road trip. To avoid an uncomfortable, stressful drive, you need to prepare your car for the road before you leave.

First, give your car a thorough cleaning. Empty out all of the trash you’ve accumulated in your daily commutes, vacuum out any dirt or pet hair, and ensure that your glove box is neat and organized.

Next, take your car for a tune-up. Get the oil changed and the tires rotated and ask the mechanic to check your brakes and fluid levels. Be sure that your spare tire is inflated and pack jumper cables, a jack, and extra wiper fluid in your trunk.

Pack the Necessities

Check that all of your necessary paperwork is in your car, including your registration and proof of insurance, as well as any maps and guide books you might want for your trip. It can be helpful to have a map specifically designed for a road trip. These will indicate interesting roads and attractions that are worth a stop.

If you don’t have lumbar support car seats, pack a cushion for back support. Maintaining proper posture throughout your trip will keep you both comfortable and alert.

Have a Rough Plan

It’s okay to leave room for an impulse stop or two, but for the most part, you want to have a plan for your road trip. Because it’s easy to become drowsy behind the wheel, you should plan to stop every two hours or so.

This can be a quick break at a rest stop or taking a longer break at a roadside attraction, as long as you’re getting out to stretch your legs. It’s a good idea to plan for a longer break between the hours of 1 and 3 pm when your body experiences a natural drop in energy.

Take time to research online or study maps to determine how long you’ll spend in the car each day and where you’ll stop each night. To get the most out of your days, try to include a mix of interstate and scenic routes.

Your research using the best resources to plan a road trip will help you decide which backroads are worth the additional time!

Make a Snack and Drink Checklist

When planning a road trip, one of the most important checklists is the one for your snacks and drinks. While you’ll be making semi-frequent stops to stretch your legs, it’s not a good idea to load up on fast food and junk when you do so.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying an occasional candy bar or bag of chips on the road. However, too much junk food will leave you feeling drowsy and unfocused – the last two things you want to be when behind the wheel.

To prevent the need for tons of fast food, pack plenty of healthy snacks and drinks. Your primary drink should be water, as it will keep you hydrated and energized throughout your trip. As for snacks, go with mostly whole, nutrient-dense foods.

Your specific snack list will depend on your and your family’s preferences, but some good choices include dried fruit, vegetables with hummus, popcorn, almonds, and trail mix.

Bring a cooler in the car and line it with frozen water bottles. These will keep you and your passengers hydrated all day and double as a cooling agent for your refrigerated foods.

Don’t Forget the Entertainment

In addition to your drinks and snacks, you’ll need to pack entertainment. Both for yourself and your passengers.

Now, if you have adults or older children along for the ride, they can pack their own bags. But with small children, you’ll need to prepare for the inevitable barrage of “are we there yet” and do what you can to prevent it.

On your checklist, include a variety of books, movies, games, and crafts for the children in the car. For yourself, add music and audiobooks. You want to be able to keep yourself entertained while keeping your eyes on the road.

Having a music app on your phone isn’t enough. Take it a step further by creating a road trip playlist that will allow you to hit play and look away.

Add plenty of upbeat songs that keep you alert and with audiobooks, don’t choose anything that will put you to sleep. Comedy and adventure are best!

Use This Guide to Plan a Road Trip You’ll Never Forget

Spontaneity can be an exciting part of any vacation, but the best road trip is one that’s well-planned. If you plan a road trip in advance rather than winging it, you’ll find it a much more enjoyable experience.

Having a solid road trip checklist and ensuring that everything is taken care of will help you to create a vacation that your family will want to take year after year.

Home Protection: Flood Insurance Coverage

What’s the worst thing you can think of happening to your home? Most people think of fire, but for people who live in easily flooded areas, there’s another threat: flood damage. Do you sometimes find your home has been harmed by a deluge of water?

If so, you need flood insurance coverage.

But how do you go about getting it? How do you get the best rates and coverage? Keep reading to learn more!

Benefits of Flood Insurance Coverage

Why should you purchase flood insurance coverage? Shouldn’t water damage be covered by homeowner’s insurance?

These are valid questions to ask when you’re considering getting flood insurance. Unfortunately, many homeowner’s insurance policies don’t cover water damage caused by floods.

Because of this, people who rely on their homeowner’s policy might find themselves spending thousands of dollars to repair their homes.

Flood insurance coverage is valuable because it protects homeowners from having to drain their pockets to repair their homes. No one purchases a home planning for it to experience flooding.

Yet, flooding still happens. In fact, even 1 inch of flooding can cause $25,000 in damages.

As a result, it pays to become prepared, and the best way to prepare is to get flood insurance.

How to Get Flood Insurance

You can purchase flood insurance via the company providing your homeowner’s insurance.

Because of this, you can just give them a call and get all of your coverage needs met.

You can also buy the insurance through the FEMA flood insurance coverage program, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

How Much Does Flood Insurance Cost?

Like all other insurance plans, this varies based on several different criteria.

In general, insurance plans available through FEMA are less expensive. Flood insurance coverage available through private insurance companies costs more.

Prices also vary by where you live. Even though any home can suffer from flooding, the pricetag for flood insurance goes up if you live in a place likely to flood.

Want to save more with on your flood insurance? Consider moving to somewhere on higher ground.

Which Type of Flood Insurance to Choose

If you’re wondering which type of flood insurance to choose, you’re not alone.

After all, it’s hard to know just what you covered unless a flood occurs.

To make this decision, consider the likelihood of your home needing maximum flood insurance coverage. If you live in a place that has little coverage, save some money by buying lower coverage insurance.

Yet, if you reside in an area that undergoes a lot of flooding, you might want to consider spending more on increased coverage.

Looking for More Home Advice?

You want your home to work well for you for many years to come. That’s why purchasing flood insurance coverage serves as a fantastic opportunity to keep your house functioning well.

Does CBD Oil Expire? CBD Shelf Life Explained

The global CBD industry was valued at $11 billion in 2018 and has only grown since. You’re likely seeing CBD products everywhere, and know that a good oil is worth investing in. But does CBD oil expire?

If you’re looking to buy a high-quality oil to use sparingly, you want to know that it won’t expire before you’re done. CBD oil products do expire, but that word is somewhat misleading. The oil doesn’t exactly spoil, but it does lose potency.

When Does CBD Oil Expire?

Depending on how the oil is stored, CBD oil has a shelf life of fourteen months to two years. If your oil is potent and you only use a few drops a day, it may take you that long to go through it!

In addition to how the oil is stored, its shelf life can also be affected by how much it’s been processed. Minimally processed CBD oils last longer, as does full-spectrum CBD.

If your CBD oil is cut by any flavoring or other oils, it may not last as long as pure CBD. Some CBD oil brands are higher-quality, and therefore longer-lasting than others.

What Happens When CBD Expires

Past its expiration date, the cannabinoids in the CBD oil begin to break apart. This makes them more difficult for the endocannabinoid system to absorb, and therefore makes your oil less potent.

Full-spectrum CBD has a longer shelf life because it has multiple cannabinoids in it, all of which degrade at different paces. Isolate CBD breaks down faster because there are no additional cannabinoids or terpenes to support it.

How To Tell If Your Oil Has Expired

Well, since the FDA requires that CBD oil be clearly marked with an expiration date, that’s your first reference. Otherwise, the oil will become cloudy and start to smell skunky. The taste will also be “off” and slightly more acidic.

Will Expired CBD Make You Sick?

Nope! At least, not unless it’s been expired for years. Taking CBD in small doses, even if it’s become murky or cloudy, shouldn’t make you sick.

Since the oil doesn’t go rancid, you can even continue vaping CBD oil once it’s gone bad. You’ll just have to get past the murky look.

How To Properly Store Your CBD

If your CBD oil didn’t come in a tinted glass bottle, transfer it into one. CBD oil is light-sensitive and should be stored in blue or green glass. Store your CBD in a cool, dry place, as heat and moisture can accelerate degradation.

A medicine cabinet or refrigerator are great spaces for your oil. Make sure the glass bottle is also airtight, as excess oxygen will also degrade the cannabinoids.

Go Experience CBD Bliss

So, to answer the question “Does CBD oil expire?”: yes, but it’s still safe to use afterward. CBD oil is a hot commodity nowadays, and you want to know that your investment will be worth it. Spending more on your oil will guarantee it works better and lasts even longer.

While it might seem strange to go from a large home to a tiny home, living big in a tiny home is completely doable! There are plenty of ways to maximize your space in your tiny home to make it feel organized and homey!

1. Declutter

Living in a tiny home means you might have to get rid of some of your things. One of the best ways to do that is to declutter all your belongings. Some people who move into a tiny home adopt a lifestyle of minimalism. It is a lifestyle that means that you live only with what you need.

If you’re moving to a tiny home, go through all your things and decide what you need to bring and what you can donate. Chances are when you get into your tiny home. You may need to declutter even more.

2. Shelving

When you have a tiny home, you need to take advantage of every space possible! Some of the best space comes from hanging shelving on the walls.

Start at the top of the ceiling and decide how much space you can devote to shelving. There are many different shelving sizes and options, and they work perfectly in every room, especially in the kitchen. You can utilize both the top and bottom, buy attaching hooks and hanging utensils or other kitchen necessities on them.

3. Shipping Container

If you’re unable to find a tiny home that suits your needs, many people convert a shipping container into a tiny house.

The great part about having a shipping container converted to a tiny home is that you can create any kind of layout you want. That means your home is “customized” and designed to fit you and your needs. Putting storage where you need it, instead of fitting it into an already-made home, can be a huge benefit.

4. Containers And Jars

Another part of maximizing storage is making sure that you are organized. When you go shopping, it’s much better to have containers and jars that fit neatly together into space than it is to make everything fit.

For non-perishable items, you can store it in labeled containers or jars. For canned goods, there are creative ways to stack and rotate them. Knowing that everything has a place helps keep it all together and declutter.

5. Look Below

Not only should you take advantage of space up above, but look below as well!

Long, slim containers that can fit underneath beds, furniture, cabinets, and other places off the floor, can hold many items! Consider storing things like out-of-season clothing, bathroom items, hobby products, kitchen soaps, and more. Anything that’s fairly small can typically fit underneath fixtures.

Some storage bins have wheels that make it easy to pull the bin out from underneath.

6. Out-of-Sight Storage

The best storage is hidden in plain sight! Storage like hollowed-out ottomans, seating benches, false books, and more. These storage spaces can hold various items such as valuables, kids’ toys, games, blankets, and anything else you can think of.

You can even design a table to use as an island to prepare food or Murphy’s bed to hide more shelving and storage.

7. Beds Up!

Speaking of beds, if you’re stretched for space, consider investing in Murphy’s bed.

A Murphy’s bed is a bed that lifts and “stores” against the wall. When it’s not in use, it’s up on the wall, allowing you to have more space during the day. Murphy’s beds come in different sizes, so if you have a challenging space, you can find something to meet your needs.

8. Wheeled Carts

Wheeled carts are perfect for tiny homes because you can often fit a lot of objects on them. Moving them from room to room is also great since you can store an abundance of things on them and maximizing your space in other room.s

If they’re metal, you have even more room for storage because there are storage magnets where you can hold things like paper clips, push pins, spices, and more.

9. Vertical Greens

Surely, having a tiny home means that you likely spend more time in the outdoors. But what if you love having plants inside your home, or rather, you enjoy having an herb garden?

Having greens in your home is possible with a tiny home with the help of a vertical garden. A vertical garden is on the wall using a wall planter. You can likely plant any kind of plant in a vertical garden as long as it isn’t too big.

10. Charging Stations

Living in a tiny home doesn’t mean that you have to give up technology! Many people still utilize things like WiFi and smartphones in their homes.

Charging all these things is sure to take up some space, but if you have a designated charging station in a drawer means that you free up precious counter space. Plus, while charging in the station, you can focus on other things.
