The Top 3 Reasons Why There’s Dead Grass in Your Yard

Green yard with dry and fresh glass

Does your yard have dead grass in it? Does it seem like an odd sight? If it does, ask yourself: what killed the grass?

Usually, you’d expect your grass to die from lack of nutrients or too much stress, which will likely cause it to turn yellow and brown, falling off the stems. If your grass is falling off on its own, that’s cause for alarm.

To find out what to do about it, read and see our guide on the top three causes of dead grass in your yard!

1. Harsh Chemicals in Lawn Fertilizer

While some may think that dead grass in their yard is due to a lack of watering, this is often not the case. Sometimes, the dead grass results from using harsh chemicals in your lawn fertilizer.

Harsh chemicals in your lawn fertilizer can change the soil’s pH, making grass challenging to grow. Additionally, too much fertilizer can burn the grass, causing it to turn brown and die.

Finally, if you don’t rake up leaves and other debris, they can smother the grass, leading to dead lawn patches. Try this residential lawn mowing service if you need help with your lawn maintenance.

2. Drought and Wet Conditions

Drought can cause the grass to die because it doesn’t get enough water to stay healthy. When there is a lack of rainfall, the soil will begin to dry out, and the grass will turn brown and die.

Wet conditions can also cause the grass to die because it can lead to diseases that attack the roots and prevent the grass from getting the oxygen it needs.

3. Pests and Diseases

Pests and diseases are one of the reasons why there might be dead grass in your yard. Here are some of the most common:

Grubs

These are small, white, C-shaped insects that live in the soil and feed on the roots of the grass. You’ll notice dead grass patches or dying grass if you have a grub problem. The best way to get rid of grubs is to treat your lawn with an insecticide.

Brown Patch

A fungal disease that causes large brown patches to form in lawns, brown patches often result from too much moisture and insufficient sunlight.

Take-All Root Rot

Another fungal disease, this one affects the roots of the grass, causing them to rot and the grass to eventually die.

Bring Dead Grass in Your Yard Back to Life

If you have dead grass in your yard, it’s important to remember the reasons so you can bring it back to life. If you can identify the problem, you can take steps to fix it and get your dead grass back to life. With a little TLC, you can have a green, healthy yard.

4 Reasons You Should Mow the Lawn: Your Guide

Cutting the grass is a perfect opportunity to get outside, exercise, and breathe in some fresh air. However, some people hate mowing the lawn, deeming it a waste of time.

Fortunately, mowing the lawn isn’t such a bad thing. If you’re feeling hesitant about the yard care service you hire, you should definitely continue with it.

In this guide, we will discuss the several benefits when you mow the lawn. Hopefully, they’ll convince you to get out there and enjoy mowing your lawn again!

Read on to learn more.

1. Keeps Your Grass Healthy

Mowing helps the grass to grow thicker and fuller, which makes it more resistant to weeds. It stimulates root growth, which helps the grass to better absorb nutrients and water.

It also helps to control thatch, which can build up and suffocate grass. Mowing helps to keep lawns looking neat.

2. Keeps the Pests Away

One of the most important reasons you should mow your lawn is to keep the pests away. When the grass is long, it provides a perfect hiding place for all sorts of pests, from rodents to snakes.

Mowing the lawn regularly will deprive them of their hiding places and make your property less attractive to them. It will help to remove any potential food sources that pests may be attracted to, such as debris and leaves.

3. It Adds Curb Appeal

A well-manicured lawn can make your home look more attractive. If you’re trying to sell your home, first impressions are key. Potential buyers are more likely to take a second look at a property with a neatly trimmed lawn.

Aside from making your home look nicer, mowing the lawn can also improve its value. A healthy lawn can add thousands of dollars to your home’s resale value.

Additionally, mowing the lawn can help to keep your home’s foundation in good shape. Overgrown grass and weeds can damage your home’s foundation and lead to costly repairs. By knowing when to mow the grass, you can avoid these problems.

If you want to boost your home’s curb appeal and add to its value, be sure to make lawn care a priority. Visit Tuxedoyardcare.com to ask for a quote for lawn services.

4. A Good Exercise

Mowing the lawn is a great way to get some exercise. It requires you to use your arms and legs, and it gets your heart rate up. It’s also a great way to improve your stamina and endurance.

It also reduces stress and improves your mood. Additionally, mowing the lawn can help you burn calories and lose weight.

Time to Mow the Lawn

If you’re looking for a reason to mow the lawn, this guide is for you. Mowing the lawn has many benefits, including making your home look nicer, improving your home’s value, keeping pests away, and getting excellent exercise.

7 Common Garden Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Did you know that there were 18.3 million gardeners in 2021 alone?

With so many new people joining the gardening space, there’s a lot for people to learn. But there’s also a lot of knowledge to be passed around. Luckily, we’re here to help you get started.

Read on to learn about seven of the most common garden design mistakes and how you can avoid them.

1. Not Worrying About Placement

Before you jump into gardening, it’s best to take a step back and create a plan. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself:

  • What’s the purpose of your garden?
  • Are you hosting guests here?
  • Do you want your space to have a specific theme?

While knowing the basics is important, it’s also essential to incorporate other things into the space if it’s needed. If you’re planning on hosting guests or friends here, then you need a multifunctional plan that’s going to allow you to maximize both opportunities without feeling like things are clashing.

2. Overwhelming Your Space

That being said, it’s also easy to overcomplicate your space. It’s easy to get caught up and carried away in the new excitement that comes with planning out your garden, but it’s important to keep your expectations grounded.

It’s smart to limit the number of materials and colors you bring into your garden and to bring in elements of your home. It might feel daunting to try and bring your indoor space outside, but it can definitely be done. You can also choose to work with the materials used on the exterior of your home.

Having an abundant space that flows with the rest of your home is the perfect way to bring an entirely new level of zen into your garden, and Garden Hub can help you get started.

3. Empty Beds

If you live in an urban or commercial area, you might think a minimalistic garden is the best way to go. Planting a few flowers and then filling your beds with mulch might be an easy setup, but the maintenance is going to be far from simple. Weeds are going to find those empty spots and immediately work to fill them in, and you’re going to be stuck with having to take them out all the time.

Instead, work to evenly space out your plants, and you’ll find that things not only grow naturally but also require less frequent weeding.

4. Prevention Is the Best Medicine

Working to avoid mistakes from the beginning is always a better approach than simply moving forward full speed ahead.

That means careful planning, but it also means plenty of research. Not only will this help make upkeep easier, but it’s also going to help your plants stay happy and healthy.

Some plants are going to grow better with one another than others, so making sure everything can grow happily together in one environment is the first part of your research. Then, you’re going to figure out what each of these plants can do for you. Whether it’s to simply bring beauty to your space or to give you food whenever you need it, having that purpose ahead of time will make your life much easier.

From there, you’ll be ready to move forward with the rest of the process.

5. Impatience

This is the exact thing that can lead to a failed garden every time. Not only can you end up damaging the soil and your property, but you’re also putting your garden at risk of failure by rushing into the process.

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of planning and starting your garden, but it’s important to not simply purchase the first things you see. Instead, take the time you need to plan and effectively grow your plants. They’ll only thank you for it in the end.

6. Trees Are Too Big

If your space is small, planting a big tree might not be the best move. Not only will it take up a lot of space, but its canopy will grow quickly and keep the other plants below it from getting adequate light. This can be good if you want a low-light garden, but it’s important to realize that you will be limited with plant choices if you have a large tree.

7. Forgetting About the Sun

That being said, you also want to make sure your plants don’t end up getting too much sun. When you plan the placement of your plants carefully, you’re going to get rewarded with healthy, thriving plants. If you have shady spots, though, there are plants that can grow in those conditions.

Carefully consider where the sun rises and sets, and what spots in your yard receive the right amounts of light each day. This can help you plan where to place your garden, or if you only have one location to choose from, it can help you plan out which plants would best fit the area.

Adding a bench or a table and chairs to the garden space is another great way to ensure your plants and your guests find enjoyment in your outdoor space. You can even get creative and coordinate your furniture colors to match the flowers or other plants inside your garden.

Don’t Make These Common Garden Design Mistakes

Now that we’ve gone over a few of the most common garden design mistakes, are you ready to get started with a garden design of your very own? Whether you’re designing your first garden or your fifth, taking your own unique approach can help the entire process become one that’s more enjoyable and easier to get through. Remember, have fun and get creative!

7 Questions to Ask Before Hiring Tree Trimming Services

Did you know spending time around trees could provide health benefits such as reduced stress levels, improved cognition, and increased longevity? If you have trees around your property, these are just some reasons to keep them in fantastic condition.

But what questions should you ask before hiring tree trimming services? Failing to do your due diligence could result in working with a low-quality contractor that leaves your trees in unsatisfactory condition.

The good news is, you can make the hiring process more straightforward by asking a tree trimming professional 7 key questions.

Without further ado, here they are.

1. How Long Has Your Business Been Providing Tree Trimming Services?

An experienced contractor will have knowledge of many common tree issues and know how to resolve these problems. They may also be able to give you helpful advice for looking after your shrubs in-between visits from a professional service.

2. Is Your Company Licensed and Insured?

If a business doesn’t have the correct licensing and insurance, this could be a warning sign they are unprofessional and may cut corners while trimming your trees. A reputable firm will be happy to show you its credentials before beginning work.

3. Can You Provide Client References?

It can give you peace of mind if a tree maintenance service has a list of glowing client testimonials. In contrast, if a business can’t provide you with positive reviews from previous clients, this may be because they perform substandard work.

4. Does Your Business Use Subcontractors?

Should a tree trimming company outsource its work to subcontractors, it may have less control over the standard of work provided. To avoid this issue, you might prefer to work with a business that uses its own staff to trim your shrubs.

5. Which Services Do You Provide?

It can be convenient to hire a contractor that provides a range of services such as tree trimming and pruning, yard work, and stump removal. This means you’ll only have to work with one business, rather than hiring multiple firms to tidy up your outside space.

6. Is Your Estimate Likely to Change?

While you’ll want to receive excellent tree care services, you’ll also be keen to keep the cost as low as possible. Make sure a contractor is willing to stick to their estimate and will check with you first before carrying out additional work that could raise the final price.

7. How Long Will the Work Take?

A popular tree pruning company will be busy, and it’s a good idea to ask how quickly they can visit your property and when they would expect to finish the job. If a business has a long waiting list, it might be better to look for another contractor who can trim your trees before they become too large.

Hire the Best Trimming Service In Your Locality

Employing tree trimming services can help keep your shrubs in top-class condition all year round. Before working with a contractor, ask them about their experience level and if they will carry out the work themselves. You can also inquire how soon they can complete the work and how much it will cost.

This can help you find a superb contractor who will take great care of your trees.

5 American Flag Displaying Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Did you know that there have been 27 different versions of the flag of the United States? No matter which one you’re flying, it’s important to avoid the common American flag displaying mistakes. American flag etiquette is specific on when and how to fly a flag, and going against this etiquette can cause issues or disrespect.

If you’re looking for some common mistakes to avoid, look no further! Here are five common mistakes to avoid when hanging American flags.

1. Incorrect Orientation

One of the first things you should consider is the orientation of your flag. Does the union go to the top left or the top right?

Hanging a flag at the wrong orientation is immensely disrespectful and must be avoided. Hang the flag with the union in the top left of the flag in relation to the flag pole. In all situations, this is the correct orientation to hang the flag.

2. Worn or Damaged Flag

You wouldn’t wear damaged clothes, so why fly a damaged flag? If your flag is damaged, torn, or otherwise worn down, you should replace your worn American flag swiftly.

Your flag might have gotten damaged while flying it. Sun bleaching, weather, airborne debris, and other such issues will inevitably damage your flag. If you need a new American flag, click here to replace your damaged flag.

3. Wearing Your Flag

It’s common to see people wearing clothes that feature the American flag. Hats, shirts, and flag-styled shorts are all popular clothes, especially at patriotic events. However, these are not true flags and are simply look-alike fashion.

If you have a flag, do not wear it as clothes. Sewing an old flag into clothes or fashioning one into clothes is highly disrespectful. When you have a flag to dispose of, do so respectfully and in a way that follows flag disposal codes.

4. Keeping the Flag Up During a Storm

There are several occasions where one should not have their flag flying. One of the most common of these is during a storm or inclement weather. If you have an upcoming storm, hurricane, or rainy day, take your flag down and wait for better weather for hanging flags.

You also should take your flag down at night. The flag should fly during the day, meaning you should raise it in the morning and lower the flag at night. Hanging flags at night is considered against the code.

5. Improper Order

The fifth mistake to avoid is a simple question of order. If you have multiple flags but only one flag pole, it’s crucial that the American flag is at the top. The flag code states that the American flag must be displayed at the top of the flag pole and above any other flags.

Avoiding American Flag Displaying Mistakes

There are many American flag displaying mistakes that you should avoid, but these are the five most severe. Avoid these mistakes and fly your flag in a respectful and patriotic way.

How to Get Rid of Bugs at Home

Is your home suffering from an infestation of bugs?

There’s little more unpleasant than opening a can of soup for dinner, only to find you’ve got more dinner on the can than in it. Spilled soup aside, finding bugs in your home can lead to growing anxieties. After all, they’re not where they are by choice.

That said, there are steps you can take to minimize the number of problematic household bugs in your home, remove those that are there, and reduce your risk of a full-blown infestation.

If you want to learn about how to get rid of bugs at home, just keep reading!

Use Chemicals

One way to get rid of bed bugs or any other bugs is to use chemicals. There are a variety of chemicals that can be used to kill bugs, and they can be found at most hardware stores or online. Be sure to read the labels carefully and follow the directions completely to avoid any accidents.

If you use chemicals to kill bugs, be sure to ventilate the area well and keep children and pets away from the area until the chemicals have dried or been removed. You can find more pest control products online to get rid of bugs.

Rid it Naturally

A few natural ways to get rid of bugs in your home without having to resort to harsh chemicals. Some of these methods include using essential oils, setting out traps, or using natural repellents.

You can also try a few home remedies like using vinegar or lemon juice to get rid of bugs. Whatever method you choose, follow the directions carefully and take precautions to keep your family and pets safe.

Use Light and Heat

This can be done with a hand-held bug zapper, or by simply turning up the heat in your home. Bug zappers work by attracting bugs with a light, then electrocuting them when they come into contact with the metal grid. This will kill most bugs in contact.

If you don’t have a bug zapper, you can also try turning up the heat in your home. This will make it too hot for most bugs to survive, and they will eventually die off.

Keep It in the Freezer

If you found signs of pests and looking for a way to get rid of pests or bugs at home, the freezer is a great place to start. All you need to do is place the bug-infested item in a sealed bag and leave it in the freezer for at least 24 hours.

The cold temperature will kill the bugs and their eggs, and you can then dispose of them properly.

Your Best How to Get Rid of Bugs at Home Guide

If you’re looking for a foolproof way how to get rid of bugs at home, follow these guide; you can use chemicals or you can rid of them naturally. You may identify the bugs so that you can target your approach, seal any cracks or crevices, and place infested items in the freezer. Pesky Pests: 3 Common Signs of a Spider Infestation

If you’re hoping that spiders cannot pose a danger to you, your family, or the pets in your home, think again. Yes, they may appear to be cute and fuzzy creatures, but they are essentially monsters that are waiting for their chance to devour you.

If you happen to notice even one of the following, there is a high chance that it is not a slipper, but a creature waiting for you to let down your guard. Be wary, and keep reading for the top three signs of a spider infestation because what you do now may very well save your life.

1. An Increase in Spider Webs

A common sign of spider infestation is the increase in the number of spider webs and egg sacs. This is because spiders build webs to catch prey and protect their eggs. If you see an increase in egg sacs, it is a sign that the spiders are reproducing and that the infestation is getting worse.

If there are webs in the corners of your rooms, in crawl spaces, in closets or drawers, or in other areas where spiders like to congregate, it’s a good indicator that you have a problem. You may have to deal with a spider infestation.

2. Spider Infestation: You See More Spiders

If you see an increase in the number of spiders or more dead spiders, it is likely that there is an infestation. And it is likely that they are reproducing. This is because spiders reproduce quickly and can lay up to 200 eggs at a time.

You may see an increased spider activity. Spiders can be present in unlikely places. If you find spiders in areas where they shouldn’t be, such as in your bed or in your closet, it’s a sign that there is an infestation, and you need to contact an exterminator to keep them away.

3. Presence of Spider Droppings

Another common sign is the presence of spider droppings. These are usually small, dark-colored pellets that can be found on surfaces where spiders have been active. They are typically found in corners, on windowsills, and in other areas where spiders like to hide.

Check the skirting boards or the walls of your home for anything unusual that resembles a paint splatter. If there is, then you are seeing a spider poop.

Thinking About Going for Pest Control?

When it comes to common pests, spiders rank high on the list of unwanted houseguests. While these eight-legged creatures can be helpful in controlling other household pests, they can also be a huge nuisance.

Whether you are dealing with a spider infestation or any other type of insect problem, you need to call a professional immediately. Spraying your home with insecticides is only a temporary  spider control fix and could cause worse problems for you and those that live with you.

Insects are similar to people; the more you have, the more issues you will have. Contact your local pest control service as soon as you see signs of an infestation.
